Did You Know?

The dark color of an Eclipses tomato is its natural appearance. At first glance, you might think your Eclipses tomatoes look as if they are unripe, or unnatural, and therefore bitter to the taste. But this family of tomatoes has an authentic and intense flavor that is much sweeter than normal tomatoes, with a mild tang tomatoes are known for. NatureSweet Eclipses tomatoes are naturally very juicy and firm in texture, which means they are an excellent choice for delicious salads or a great substitute for any medium or large tomato in recipes.

Why are Eclipses tomatoes sweeter?

Like all NatureSweet tomatoes, NatureSweet Eclipses tomatoes come from Non-Gmo seeds that grow naturally to produce dark, extraordinarily sweet fruits. Why? It’s all about their sugar content, or "brix level,” which is naturally higher than that of traditional red tomatoes.

How should Eclipses tomatoes be stored?

All NatureSweet tomatoes, including our Eclipses, are greenhouse-grown, vine-ripened and lovingly plucked at the perfect time by our amazing Associates when they are ready to travel to a store near you. Uncut, Eclipses can be kept for up to two weeks at room temperature. NatureSweet does not recommend that you keep tomatoes in the refrigerator because the cold environment will reduce their sweetness, which obviously leads to a loss of flavor.

What is the nutritional content of Eclipses tomatoes?

To claim Eclipses are healthy is an understatement! Frequent consumption of tomatoes is recommended as part of a healthy diet by the USDA. Eclipses tomatoes are especially rich in potassium, magnesium and vitamins A and C; and are low in calories, and cholesterol-free with zero saturated fat. Also, according to USDA, “Lycopene is an antioxidant found naturally in many fruits and vegetables and is found in particularly high quantities in red tomatoes. Lycopene acts as a potent antioxidant and is able to protect cells against oxidative damage, which can decrease the risk of chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease. Antioxidants like lycopene counteract the activities of free oxidants which can react with substances and destroy important cells.”
