Q: I heard there are new tariffs on tomatoes. Will that affect NatureSweet products?

Yes, the U.S. government recently imposed new tariffs on tomatoes imported from Mexico. Since a large portion of the tomatoes sold in the U.S.—especially in the winter—come from Mexico, this change is affecting the entire tomato industry.

At NatureSweet, we grow our tomatoes in greenhouses and manage every step of the process ourselves. That gives us more control than most, and we’re doing everything we can to partially absorb the added costs and keep our products affordable.

Q: Will prices go up on NatureSweet tomatoes?

What happens with the final price the retailers charge is not a decision made by NatureSweet. While we are working hard to absorb all the new administrative costs and at least partially the large 17% new tomato tax, we couldn’t take on all of that and keep the superior taste, safety and consistency you expect from NatureSweet without cutting corners, resulting in a single digit price increase to all customers..

Q: Will this affect the quality of NatureSweet tomatoes?

Not at all. NatureSweet tomatoes are grown in greenhouses, ripened naturally on the vine, and picked at peak flavor. We’ll never compromise on quality, flavor, or food safety—no matter what’s happening in the trade or policy environment.

Q: Why is this happening?

The termination of the Tomato Suspension Agreement, a longstanding trade accord between the U.S. and Mexico, has triggered new import duties on tomatoes from Mexico. This has created supply chain disruptions across the industry. NatureSweet is advocating for a balanced solution that supports all tomato growers and ensures year-round access for U.S. consumers.
